SuperMom
Best Mom Award
Now i want to talk about my MOTHER.
Mom, or you know her as Sandy, is a superwoman, trully. She handled us three kids throughout anything. I remember one memory with her about food. She made sure we were fed and not be hungry. For a few years, my dad was involved in a protest at his work and didnt have enough money for the family. My mom was creative, in fact we ate potato soup almost everyday, but with different meats. The most important thing was that we didnt go bed hungry. Her favorite words was “Eat it or send it to Africa.” We believed her until Dave said one day, if we send food to Africa it will become mold. Ha ha. She could raise us kids without much help, of course we had grandparents around the corner, but we went there ON our will, not being asked to go, but whenever we WANTED to.
She is everlasting our love and our comforter. She is not retired from mothering yet, as she is helping raise two of her grandsons. She loves them more than anything.

Tribute to those who had mother roles in my life.
Mother’s Day is coming up. I have tried to find a poem or a story about childless mothers. A mother does not have to have a child to be a mother role. I know, because I have had a few mother roles in my life, whom my mother allowed to be involved in my life.
My first mother role was my aunt Carolyn. She couldn’t bear children, but it did not stop her to be a motherly role to me and my two brothers. I loved it when I spent time with her. She spoke of wisdom and advice. I loved going to Otwell, Indiana ( a smallllll town near Oakland City) to visit her while she and Uncle Leeland went to college at Oakland City College. Then when they graduated and moved to the Phillippines, I missed her terribly. When she came back from the Phillipines for good, she also brought an adopted daughgter, whom I loved dearly. She contunited to be a mother role for me until her death in 2004. Whenever I didn’t get along with my parents,(oh that wild life back then), she was there to advice me and get me back on the right path. I really thank her for being there for me.
My second mother role is Ina Price, whom I still affectionaly call Aunt Ina. She was like a mother to me and my brothers. She first met my parents when they were newlyweds and neighbors. She aggressively learned sign language from my parents. She had a child, who later died. She saw my mother have Jasper and Dave. She adopted Tadd. Later on Mom had me just after Ina moved to Casey County. She then adopted Taunyette. We all grew up together and always came to each other’s houses or at friends’ house. I had the honor of her being my chaperone for Miss Deaf America, and she did well as a mother since my family couldn’t go there. I also had the honor of her doing my hair and makeup on my wedding, also singing my favorite song, “Amazing Grace” in memory of my grandfather who had passed away the year before. I still call her my Aunt Ina because she still remembers what my favorite cereal is after those years
My third mother role is Judy Swim. She, like Carolyn, is childless. When she moved in Kentucky in the mid-80’s, I immediately felt a connection to her. She had that aurora around her that made people attract to her, without her knowing. She is always smiling, helpful, and friendly. I slept over her house a few times. I feel blessed to have known her and Dwight, her husband, who was also my pastor. Dwight and Judy was there to see me saved, baptized and get married. Dwight married me and Larry in 2000.
Thank you for helping me for who I am today.
